The Land of Nipigon Region including the Township of Dorion has experienced an economic boom in mineral exploration, particularly for uranium deposits. The Sibley Basin (Nipigon Basin) uranium exploration project is being lead by Rampart Ventures Inc. Rampart is currently in the phase two process of drilling on their Black Sturgeon property. Preliminary results show what appears could be a multi-billion dollar uranium find. According to Rampart geologists, the Sibley Basin is a Helikian-age continental sedimentary basin that shows a number of similarities to the Athabasca basin in Northern Saskatchwean -- home to the largest uranium deposits in the world.
