Greetings from the Reeve!

Welcome to Dorion!
As you browse through our new website, I am confident that you will find abundant information at your fingertips.

Dorion attracts new residents who are looking for rural living in fresh, northern air. We are located in Northwestern Ontario on the shores of Lake Superior, the largest freshwater lake in the world. The community is located on Canada's main highway corridor, a 35 minute drive east of Thunder Bay.

Dorion is surrounded by hundreds of unspoiled lakes and streams. For the outdoor enthusiast recreational activities abound in the area. Residents and visitors alike, enjoy sport fishing, boating, horseback riding, flying, snowmobiling, and cross country skiing. For the quieter at heart, there are opportunities for walking, hiking, bird-watching, photography or simply gazing at the stars in the night sky.

Dorion is home to the world renowned Ouimet Canyon which attracts visitors from all over the world. Visitors to the picturesque Eagle Canyon can trek over the longest suspension bridge in Canada. The Dorion Fish Culture Station, which  recently underwent a $15,000,000 renovation, raises sportfishing species for many of Northwestern Ontario lakes. If you are a visitor to the area, accommodations are provided at Wolf River Campground or the Dorion Inn. Canyon Country Service has that perfect gift to remind you of your stay with us.

Our Community offers a safe, friendly environment for family living. Dorion Public school provides quality education for local children with the Brass Bell providing Early Childhood Education initiatives.

Our local public library provides access to high-speed internet services. Cell phone service is also available to area residents and visitors for instant communication to the world.

Of course, our greatest asset, are the people who live in our small community. They provide the cornerstone to a community that has existed for over 100 years. Each of us is prepared to make your stay in our community enjoyable. If you are searching for that idyllic way of life, Council and our municipal staff are ready to help you in any way they can.

I am delighted that you have chosen to visit our website. I hope to meet you in person to experience all that Dorion has to offer!

Sincerely,

Linda Tolmonen
